Children from 3 – 4 years of age Early music education is an effective means of the development of the mental and intellectual sphere.
During his or her development, the child passes through several so-called critical periods. These periods are characterized by an increased level of perceptivity, and a great plasticity of brain operation. If the child is introduced to music at the age of 2 to 4, which is one of the most powerful and intense “critical periods”, his or her creative abilities develop significantly more than at an older age. In 1994, a team of American and Russian scientists undertook a remarkable project to examine the influence of music upon the activation of brain development in children. They arrived at the conclusion that this influence was most effective when applied during early stages of brain development. The age between 2 to 4 is most suitable for the perception of sensoric inflow. It is at this age that the influence of the child’s environment is at its strongest, the genetically conditioned dispositions are becoming manifest, and the child moves on to rational “productive” activity. This is why early music education is an effective means of the development of the mental and intellectual sphere.
